Russia has requested a September 6 meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP, said Deputy Russian Ambassador to the Organization Dmitry Polyanskiy on Thursday, Interfax reported.

According to him, Russia is expecting IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to attend the meeting.

Moreover, according to the work program of the Security Council, there is one more meeting scheduled for September 22: on "the maintenance of peace and security in Ukraine.

The Russian military has been in control of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe, since March. Energoatom's Ukrainian specialists continue to work there. Since August, the plant has been under regular shelling. Russia and Ukraine accuse each other of shelling. The international community fears that shelling of the plant could lead to a nuclear disaster. Forty-two countries have called on Russia to return the station to Ukrainian control to ensure the safety of the plant.

Earlier, on Monday, an IAEA mission went to the Zaporizhzhia NPP, and today it became known that the head of the organization Rafael Grossi and some of the IAEA specialists left the territory of the plant.
