Residents of a number of villages in Ararat Province of blocked the Yerevan-Artashat motorway Friday and demanded to restore their irrigation water supply.

One of these villagers told Armenian News-NEWS.am that they had no irrigation water for three days.

"They were giving the excuse that 'We don't have [irrigation] water, if we give it to you, it won't be enough.' We had to close off the motorway. Now they have given irrigation water, but they may cut [it] off again. Now we have come to the [local] water supply [administration], but there is no one. (...). A person cannot endure this heat, let alone a plant endure [it]," he said.

The Yerevan-Artashat motorway has been reopened.
