The Armenian government proposes to exempt from military service those citizens who have acquired Armenian citizenship in order to participate in any sport as part of the Armenian national teams, at the same time losing the possibility of deferment from military service, which in turn should have been granted until May 1, 2021. Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Karen Giloyan stated this Monday during the National Assembly debates on the bill on amendments and addenda to the Law on Military Service and the Status of Servicemen.

Thus, the given Armenian national or the relevant federation must submit by October 1 a petition to the corresponding agencies in order for this Armenian citizen to be exempted from military service.

After a relatively short debate, the aforesaid bill was approved.
