YEREVAN. - Office of Armenian Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan issues a statement accusing Armenian Ministry of Education and Science in violation of human rights.
“During the competition of textbooks for secondary schools the Ministry of Education and Science violated the rights of Mathematic textbook authors insofar as selecting the work of one of the members of competition committee. Involvement of concerned person in the competition creates unequal conditions for the rest of the participants.
In the course of inspection, carried out on the basis of the complaint, the Ministry of Education acknowledged that the legal framework for organizing and conducting the competition for secondary schools textbooks, including the warranty exclusion of conflict of interest, is not currently functioning," reads the statement.
Andreasyan offers to develop and anchor the appropriate procedure, eliminating risks of corruption in these processes.
"At the same time, I suggest to invalidate the results of the competition in order to restore the violated rights and ensure equal conditions of competition," said the ombudsman.
