Organizers of Eurovision 2011 issued a statement addressed to Azerbaijani authorities demanding they should put an end to mass violation of property rights of their citizens and provide political and other freedoms.

In their statement organizers said the European Broadcasting Union calls on Azerbaijan to issue written guarantees that they would grant necessary visas to all the guests of the contest and ensure freedom of expression and opinion, as well as press freedom in accordance with the European Convention on Human Rights.

Adherence to the basic fundamental rights is the cornerstone of the success of the Eurovision contest since its founding in 1956 - and 2012 is no exception, said head of reference group Frank-Dieter Freiling.

Azerbaijan’s capital Baku will host Eurovision 2012 after country’s representatives Ell and Nikki won the contest this year receiving the highest number of points from televoters and juries.
