A Swiss rail company plans to try to set a record for the world's longest passenger train during a Saturday trip along one of the most scenic routes through the Alps.

Rhaetian Railway plans to run a 1.9-kilometer train with 100 cars and four locomotives on the Albula/Bernin route from Preda to Bergen.

The route was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2008 and passes through 22 tunnels, some of which pass through mountains, and over 48 bridges, including the famous viaduct Landwasser.

The entire journey of about 25 kilometers will take about an hour.

Renato Fasciati, director of the Rethian Railway, said setting the record was meant to highlight some of Switzerland's engineering achievements and celebrate 175 years of Swiss railroads.
