The FBI is examining the wreckage of a Chinese airship shot down by the U.S. military over the Atlantic Ocean. So far, divers have managed to find only a "small part" of its electronics, and it is too early to draw final conclusions about the purpose of the balloon, said the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The search for the wreckage continues, reports Euronews.

Earlier, the U.S. State Department said the balloon, which flew over the state of Montana where the launch silos of ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads are located, looks exactly like a reconnaissance balloon. Beijing, on the other hand, claims that the balloon is a diverted weather probe.

Washington believes that China has a whole program of intelligence gathering using such blimps.
