A famous weapon broker, Armenian by origin Sarkis Soghanalian died in hospital in Hialeah, Fla on Wednesday at the age of 82.

Soghanalian, nicknamed “The Merchant of Death”, was known for selling weapons to Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein and supplying arms to Nicaragua, New York Times writes.

He was born in an Armenian family in the Turkish city of Iskanderun but later moved to Lebanon. He had Lebanese citizenship and U.S. residence.

His son Garo Soghanalian said his father was fluent in English, French, Armenian, Turkish and Arabic.

In early 1990s he was charged with conspiracy to sell combat helicopters to Saddam Hussein.
