YEREVAN. – Regular session of the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Interior Ministers’ Council got underway on Friday at Armenian Government Reception House. PM Tigran Sargsyan attended the event’s official opening. 

 “The speedy and sometimes unpredictable political processes in CIS countries, the adverse economic and financial phenomena, and also their impact, make it more convincing that it is necessary to not only coordinate a joint strategy for action, but to also strengthen further cooperation between us,” Sargsyan stated in his opening remarks, Government Press Service informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.     

“Terrorism, organized crime, illegal drug trafficking and arms trade, and illegal migration and trafficking recognize no political and regional borders. These phenomena represent a great challenge today. A unified and effective resistance is necessary against the internationalization processes and more dangerous manifestations of crime,” PM noted. In his words, CIS countries must develop a coordinated policy for the new challenges facing and threats against guaranteeing security.  

Aside from CIS Interior Ministers, the session also brought together other senior officials as well as Ronald Noble, Secretary General of INTERPOL. 

Session participants will discuss the improvement and coordination of future cooperation among internal affairs agencies of CIS countries in combating against crime.
