With the mediation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the conditions for the simultaneous use of the Akna-Stepanakert and Lachin roads have been agreed upon, according to Aykhan Hajizada, the spokesperson of the Azerbaijani foreign ministry, Trend reported on Tuesday.
"As it is known, today, together with the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society, the passage of a truck of the Russian Red Cross Society (SRC) from Aghdam [(Akna)]-Khankendi [(Stepanakert)] to Khankendi was ensured. We consider the fact that the cargo was delivered on the Aghdam-Khankendi road as a positive step and an important move towards the opening of that road.
“As for the simultaneous use of the Aghdam-Khankendi and Lachin roads, as Azerbaijan has noted during high-level contacts with the US and other partners, Baku has given its consent to the simultaneous use of those two roads through the International Committee of the Red Cross.
“Once again, we declare that the Azerbaijani side is ready to create conditions for the transportation of goods [to Nagorno-Karabakh] by way of the ICRC, through the Lachin checkpoint, with the observance of border guard and customs procedures, simultaneously using the Aghdam-Khankendi road," Hajizada noted in a statement.
