YEREVAN. – The priority of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) for this year will be organization of the elections proper to the international standards, deputy parliament speaker, RPA member Edward Sharmazanov told the Armenian News-NEWS.am.

According to him, organization of fair elections requires efforts of all the political powers.

“2011 inspires optimism that the political powers will not choose populism and demagogy in 2012 but will realize the importance of the state interests and run civilized political struggle. We are not afraid of the political struggle, on the contrary, only through political debates and pluralism it is possible to hold democratic elections,” he told.

Deputy Speaker believes that authorities and opposition should do everything to avoid political shocks, as Armenian citizens deserve a strong state.

“We should do everything to have a stronger, more democratic and united country this year,” Sharmazanov concluded.
