California Governor Gavin Newsom is suing the Trump administration over the insertion of the National Guard into Los Angeles, the BBC reported.

Newsom noted, “This is exactly what Donald Trump wanted. He acted illegally to federalize the National Guard. The order he signed doesn't just apply to [California]. It will allow him to go into ANY state and do the same thing. We're suing him.”

Newsom previously called Trump's decision to enlist the National Guard “illegal” and “immoral.”

Former New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo said his hometown could be next. “I believe it's going to get worse, and it's going to be New York,” he told Bloomberg Radio.

According to Cuomo, Trump's decision to send the National Guard to Los Angeles against Newsom's wishes was part of the president's formula for creating chaos.

Mass riots erupted in Los Angeles following the immigration raids, with clashes with police breaking out in the city, complete with car fires, looting and arrests.

Trump deployed 2,000 National Guard troops to the city, sparking a political uproar.
