Stationing U.S. troops in Los Angeles is estimated to cost about $134 million, Reuters reports.

Brian McDonnell, acting comptroller at the Pentagon, told lawmakers that these costs include travel, housing and meals for the troops.

The Pentagon said it would send 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines to Los Angeles to help protect federal property and personnel amid protests taking place in the city.

The reason for the protests and the ensuing riots was the tough immigration policy of US President Donald Trump.
