As relatives of those on board the Air India plane desperately search for their loved ones at the Asarwa Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, 40, lies on a bed in the general ward and is said to have survived the deadly plane crash, reports Hindustan Times.

"Thirty seconds after takeoff, there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed. Everything happened so fast,“ Vishwash, who suffered ”impact injuries" to his chest, eyes and legs, told Indian media.

The Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner on a flight from Gatwick to India with 242 people on board, including crew members, took off at 1:39 p.m. local time on Thursday, crashed minutes later and burst into flames.

"When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I jumped up and ran. The wreckage of the plane was scattered around me," the survivor said.

Vishwash, a British citizen, had come to India for a few days to visit his family and was about to return to the UK with his brother Ajay Kumar Ramesh, 45.

 Vishwash said he had lived in London for 20 years, adding that his wife and child also live in London.

In other wards of the hospital, relatives and friends of the passengers on board the Air India flight were searching for their relatives. Among them were family members of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who was also on the flight.
