Italy is firmly against Iran obtaining nuclear weapons, stated the country’s Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani.

“In the face of the nuclear threat, there can be no ambiguity: Iran must not acquire the atomic bomb,” Tajani said during a parliamentary speech on the escalating Middle East crisis.

He noted that he conveyed this message to Israeli President Isaac Herzog, also affirming Israel’s right to defend itself against a potential nuclear attack. According to Tajani, Iran’s violations of its nuclear commitments are confirmed by IAEA data.

“The Italian government, as I have already said, firmly opposes Iran’s acquisition of nuclear weapons, in line with the position of our partners and allies,” he concluded.
