“For those people who say they want peace — you can’t have peace if Iran has a nuclear weapon,” said U.S. President Donald Trump in an interview with The Atlantic.

“So for all of those wonderful people who don’t want to do anything about Iran having a nuclear weapon — that’s not peace,” the U.S. president added.

According to journalist Mike Scherer, Trump’s remarks came in response to a question about critics like Tucker Carlson, who have vocally opposed U.S. support for Israel during its strikes on Iran, calling it a betrayal of the “America First” principle.

Trump also stated that Iran still wants to “make a deal,” although he is uncertain whether they will show up for the negotiations scheduled for tomorrow.

He went on to say that the conflict in Gaza is nearing its end.

“Gaza is ready to fold — or just about ready to fold. We have gotten many of the hostages back,” Trump said.

Scherer noted that during the interview, Trump defended his efforts to bring an end to multiple conflicts despite growing violence in the Middle East.

He also struck an overall optimistic tone about world affairs.
