The US strike on Iran's nuclear facilities calls into question the effectiveness of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said upon his arrival in Moscow for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"The US strike on Iran's nuclear facilities has called into question the effectiveness of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, undermined the nuclear non-proliferation regime, and will have negative consequences for international security. And this is the concern that many countries have now expressed," Araghchi said on the air of Iranian state television and radio.

According to the NPT, the nuclear facilities of the countries that sign the treaty must be under the protection of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Early Sunday morning, US President Donald Trump announced that the US military had successfully attacked three Iranian nuclear facilities—in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. Trump added that Tehran must agree to end the conflict. Israel has been carrying out daily strikes on Iran since June 13 as part of its operation against Iran's nuclear program.
