The United States believes that Iran may soon strike American troops stationed in the Middle East, but Washington continues to seek a peaceful resolution of the situation that will enable to avoid further escalation, two US officials have said, Reuters reports.

One of these sources added that a possible attack by Iran could take place in the next one to two days.

On early Monday morning, the US Air Force and Navy carried out strikes on the Iranian nuclear program’s three key facilities—in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan. US President Donald Trump said that the objective of this military operation was to prevent a nuclear threat from Iran, once again calling Tehran the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism. Also, the president warned that the US was ready to launch new and more extensive strikes on Iran if the latter refuses to negotiate.
