Israel and Syria are in “advanced talks” on a bilateral agreement, a senior Israeli official told the Times of Israel newspaper.

Contacts are centered on coordination on security issues, the official said.

"Can this develop into something more than [security measures]? We will wait and see. There is nothing concrete at this point. There is certainly a desire to expand the Abrahamic agreements, and it's no secret that we want to see Syria in that. And perhaps such an opportunity will present itself," he said.

According to the media source, even if Syria and Israel reach an agreement, “we will not withdraw from the Syrian Hermon or the Golan Heights. 

Officials say Syria's interim president Ahmed al-Sharaa "seems to be on the right track, trying to create some kind of government that will benefit from the economy and investment, but you never know for sure. We are very cautious, very cautious."
