According to information received from Baku, Israel carried out espionage and reconnaissance operations against Iran during the Nagorno-Karabakh war in 2020 without permission or coordination with Azerbaijan, stated former Iranian ambassador to Azerbaijan Mohsen Pakayin, Pars Today reports.
“During this period, Iran shot down an Israeli drone to make Israel understand that it was under monitoring,” Pakayin added.
“Israel invaded Azerbaijan’s aerospace and intelligence services without the knowledge of the country’s top leadership. Iranian airspace was invaded via this route. Iran warned Azerbaijan at the time, and high-ranking Azerbaijani officials confirmed this,” he noted.
Also, Mohsen Pakayin said that Iran is conducting an investigation to determine whether Azerbaijan helped Israel in its attacks on Iran during the recent 12-day war, and added that if this is confirmed, Tehran will be forced to take serious measures against Baku.
