The European Union (EU) admits that it will not be able to reach an agreement with the United States on trade tariffs and is preparing a respective response, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has said, TASS reports.

The EU is beginning to come to terms with the fact that it will not be possible to reach an agreement with the US on the elimination of tariffs, the head of the European Commission said, and expressed doubts about the prospects for negotiations in that regard with US President Donald Trump.

According to von der Leyen, Brussels is already developing countermeasures if Washington does not make concessions. In April, she had said that the US tariffs were seriously damaging businesses and consumers around the world, and warned that the EU had already taken the first round of retaliatory measures.
