Violent clashes erupted on Tuesday in western Erbil province between Kurdish security forces and supporters of influential tribal leader Khurshid Harqi.

According to Rudaw, Harqi's supporters opened fire and set tires on fire in the village of Karahanjir (Habat district) to block roads and prevent the advance of security forces who were trying to arrest him over an ongoing land conflict, Rudaw reported.

Khurshid Kharki has been in a land ownership dispute with another tribal leader for several days. During this time, the situation has repeatedly escalated into armed clashes with the use of light and medium weapons.
