Thailand has accused Cambodia of deliberately placing artillery and missile systems near residential areas, reports The Nation daily.

According to Major General Winthai Suwaree, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Army, Cambodia is using civilians as human shields, and this is a serious violation of humanitarian principles.

Suwaree stressed that the Thai armed forces are avoiding actions that could endanger civilians, including the use of high-precision weapon guidance systems.

Relations between Cambodia and Thailand have deteriorated ever since an armed incident on May 28. That day, Thai soldiers opened fire on a Cambodian military position located in the disputed territory between the Cambodian province of Preah Vihear and the Thai province of Ubon Ratchathani, in Techo Morakot village in Choam Ksan District. One Cambodian soldier was killed and several others were injured in the incident.
