The European Commission of the European Union (EU) wants to partially suspend Israel from participating in its flagship research and development program, Horizon Europe, sources said, Politico reports.

These restrictions would affect Israeli entities participating in the EIC Accelerator, which allows the Commission to take a stake in research-heavy and capital-intensive tech startups.

The decision, however, still needs backing from a qualified majority of EU countries.

Earlier, European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen and EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas had slammed Israel for the lack of progress in increasing aid to residents of the Gaza Strip; in particular, on agreements reached on unhindered deliveries.
