British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that the UK will recognize Palestine as a state at the United Nations meeting in September if Israel does not agree to end the “horrific situation in Gaza,” Sky News reports.

The British prime minister said that although humanitarian aid began to be delivered by air today, he wants at least 500 trucks with humanitarian aid to enter Gaza every day.

According to Starmer, now is the time to recognize Palestine, as this will have the greatest impact, given that the hope for the creation of two states — a “secure” Israel and a “viable” Palestinian state — is under threat.

Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron announced his decision to recognize Palestine in September. This sparked a strong reaction from Israel.
