Dmitry Medvedev will not have much credit in Karabakh negotiations on the eve of the presidential elections in Russia, Carlo Frappi, expert at Italian ISPI analythical institute, told Armenian News – NEWS.am.

Commenting on the trilateral meeting of the presidents of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia, due in Sochi on Jan 23 – 24, he told that it will hardly evidence a significant progress in peace talks.

«Mediation initiated by Medvedev in a trilateral format has clearly been important for the evolution of the negotiations, but I believe that the failure of Kazan meeting last June signified an essential failure of the personal initiative of the Russian President», told the expert.

«On the other hand, a few weeks befre the presidential elections in Russia, I don’t believe that Medvedev will have enough credit to advocate the signing of base principles of conflict resolution, and that the advance of the negotiation processwill have to wait for the comeback of Putin, and the (re)definition of his policy on Caucasus», he concluded.
