The fire service has contained most of the wildfires that erupted in recent days across Greece, however, the wildfire risk remains very high on Friday, Ekathimerini reports.

In Chios, the fire front between the villages of Leptopoda and Kampia remains active on Friday morning, according to public broadcaster ERT.

In Halkidiki, the wildfire that broke out around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday in a forested area in Stratoni, without threatening residential areas, was brought partially under control, according to the fire department. Sixty firefighters with 20 vehicles were mobilized to extinguish the fire.

According to ERT, in Achaia, the situation appears improved. Two detentions were made in connection with yesterday’s flare-up in the area.

Furthermore, the fire in the wider Sychaina area of Patras has been extinguished. Nevertheless, today strong firefighting forces remain on standby, consisting of 256 firefighters.

The risk of wildfire on Friday is very high in Attica, the Peloponnese, central Greece, Thessaly, central Macedonia, eastern Macedonia and Thrace, and the north and south Aegean.
