Chinese ambassador to Armenia Li Xinwei on Tuesday visited Aghvan Poghosyan, the 103-year-old veteran of the Great Patriotic War in World War II, and thanked Poghosyan for his participation in World War II and contribution to the victory.
“Seeing this man and looking into his eyes, I felt the soul that the participants had during the war, and I realized that he truly knows the value of peace. Only those people who have gone through war understand very well what peace is,” Ambassador Li said.
He noted that both Armenia and China have gone through very difficult times.
“But both countries have been able to overcome all this and know the value of peace. Although I have been in Armenia for only four months, I have already managed to feel the aspiration of all the countries of the South Caucasus for peace. We should always be grateful to those who were martyred during the war, as they sacrificed their lives for our peace,” Li added.
The Chinese ambassador stressed that we all have a great responsibility to maintain the stability and peace that those who fought in the war have left us.
“To achieve peace, we must respect and understand each other well,” he added.
Also, Li Xinwei presented Aghvan Poghosyan with a collection of Chinese teas and a monetary gift. In turn, the World War II veteran thanked the Chinese embassy in Armenia, headed by Ambassador Li, for the attention shown to him, and stressed the importance of the friendship between the Armenian and Chinese peoples.
