The likelihood of a security agreement with Israel is higher than the likelihood of not having one, said Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa said, Sky News Arabia reports.

Al-Sharaa noted that if it is signed, it will be based on the 1974 ceasefire, which will preserve Syria's sovereignty and pave the way for confidence-building measures and a possible peace agreement.

The Syrian president noted that he does not consider the current circumstances favorable for signing a peace agreement with Israel, but stressed that if he believes that a peace agreement will benefit Syria and the region, he will sign it without hesitation.

Also, Ahmed al-Sharaa assured that he wants to open a new chapter in relations with Lebanon, hoping that the country will benefit from the expected economic revival in Syria.
