More than a thousand people have been detained and over 100 firearms seized in Washington in the two weeks since the deployment of US National Guard units, according to US Attorney General Pam Bondi. 

“Let's make the District of Columbia great again. 1,007 arrests, 111 firearms seized,” reads the infographic posted by Bondi on social media.

According to her, 86 people were arrested last night alone, including suspects in attacks on police officers and National Guard soldiers. An alleged member of the transnational gang Tren de Aragua, recognized as a terrorist organization in the US, was also arrested.

According to The Washington Post, about 2,200 National Guard troops are involved in operations to combat illegal immigration and crime in the US capital.

On August 11, President Donald Trump announced the deployment of National Guard troops to Washington, transferred the city police to federal control, and allowed for the possibility of involving the armed forces to strengthen security. On August 22, he also announced his readiness to use federal government resources to fight crime in other major cities, including Chicago and New York.
