Russia and the United States discussed energy deals during the recent visit of Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to Moscow, Reuters reports.

These deals were to encourage Russia to sign a peace agreement with Ukraine, according to the sources.

In particular, the discussion focused on the possibility of Exxon Mobil returning to the Sakhalin-1 oil and natural gas project, and the prospects for Russia to purchase American equipment for liquefied natural gas production projects, the BBC reports.

These deals were discussed during the recent visit of US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to Moscow. Also, they were discussed at the White House with US President Donald Trump, the sources said.

This matter was raised at the Alaska summit on August 15, too, the Reuters’ source said.

The White House wanted big headlines about a major investment deal after the Alaska summit. That way, Trump would feel like he had achieved something, the source added.
