A judge has ruled that Trump's deployment of troops and the National Guard to Los Angeles was illegal, according to the BBC.

In early June, around 5,000 troops were deployed to Los Angeles. Over time, they were gradually withdrawn, and now only about 300 National Guard soldiers remain there.

The judge ruled that National Guard troops must be relieved of their duties or may only be used to guard federal buildings.

Trump justified the deployment of troops by citing alleged mass unrest in the city, which was his interpretation of the protests in Los Angeles against his crackdown on illegal immigrants. The Democratic administrations of the city and state of California did not consent to these actions.

Trump later deployed troops to the federal capital, Washington, D.C., whose city government is also controlled by Democrats, and hinted that the same fate awaited other major cities, primarily Chicago and New York.

The Trump administration has the right to challenge the judge's decision in a higher court. In many cases, the courts of appeals have been very sympathetic to Trump's policies.
