YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Court of Appeals reflected on formerly detained Edmond Tsaturyan’s escape from a capital Yerevan court on January 21.   

“We inform, in this connection, that the bailiffs are not authorized to keep detainees and arrestees under their surveillance and to escort them anywhere. The respective escorting divisions are responsible for accompanying those who are detained or arrested within the court’s administrative territory,” the Appellate Court’s relevant statement specifically reads.   

To note, prior to his arrest and subsequent escape from a Yerevan court, on January 21, Edmond Tsaturyan had tried to steal a box of frozen chicken from a Yerevan market, Police Force informed Armenian News-NEWS.am. Also, a police source informed that, after detaining Tsaturyan, the police officers had handed him over to court bailiffs, and therefore the responsibility for Tsaturyan falls squarely upon the court. Then the arrestee had told the bailiffs he had to go to the bathroom, so the bailiffs escorted him there. But Tsaturyan, who was handcuffed, escaped from the bathroom window. Edmond Tsaturyan is still under search, and he has been charged with theft.
