Nepal has lifted a social media ban following protests that resulted in the deaths of 19 people, a government minister said on Tuesday, Reuters reports.

Social media blocks have also been lifted, and they are now operational,  Nepal's Communications and Information Technology Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung  told Reuters.

Nepal’s Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli  expressed condolences over the violence, saying it was the result of external influence.

Also, he said the Nepalese government would pay compensation to the families of the casualties and provide free medical treatment to the injured.

Oli said an inquiry committee would be formed to investigate the causes of the mass protests, assess the damage, and suggest measures to prevent such incidents from happening again.

At the peak of these protests, the "Generation Z Revolution" protest was staged near the Nepalese parliament building, resulting in clashes with the police that left about two dozen people dead and about 100 injured.
