Turkey and Egypt had warned Hamas' political leadership to tighten security during their meetings, several weeks before Israel's attack on the group in Doha on Tuesday, reports The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

According to media reports, 10 jets were used to fire long-range missiles at a house in the Qatari capital where Hamas' political leadership was meeting to discuss a recent proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza.

The planes fired missiles outside Qatari airspace, and did not violate the airspace of Saudi Arabia or the United Arab Emirates.

US officials told WSJ that Israel had informed the US of the attack minutes before it was launched, but had not disclosed the target.
