ANKARA. – In an interview with news reporters, US Ambassador to Turkey, Francis Ricciardone, reflected on the imprisoned journalists in the country.

The American diplomat noted that Turkey is opening a new chapter by doing away with its Constitution which was adopted in 1982. “You want more in freedom and in protection of human rights. That is why I am optimistic. But I have to object, since I do not understand how intellectuals and journalists have found themselves behind bars in this country. I say it clearly; I do not understand. I only know they were imprisoned on terrorism charges. I am convinced the new Constitution will bring about positive changes,” the US Ambassador to Ankara said, Hurriyet daily of Turkey informs.
