YEREVAN.- The upcoming parliamentary elections in Armenia are important for the Armenian nation, the British ambassador to Armenian Catherine Leach announced during a press conference on Monday. She welcomed the Armenian government’s announcement that transparent and fair elections must be held in Armenia.

The Ambassador mentioned that she is aware about Armenia’s technical and consultative cooperation with the EU and OSCE.

“Democratic and fair elections are not only important for the officials but also for the entire nation in the context of democratization and European integration,” the Ambassador stressed and mentioned that the public must know about their rights and actively participate in the elections.

Talking about the arrival of observers, Catherine Leach mentioned that she hoped the Armenian authorities will send necessary invitations for observers to hold the monitoring of the elections.

To mention, parliamentary elections in Armenia will take place in May, 2012.
