YEREVAN. - The previous UK ambassador worked so well that now two envoys are appointed, the newly appointed UK ambassador to Armenia Catherine Leach made a joke during a press conference on Monday.
“Everybody knows that the previous ambassador found love in Armenia. He worked so well that now two ambassadors are appointed to replace him,” Catherine Leach mentioned.
To remind, after finishing his diplomatic mission in Armenia UK Ambassador Charles Lonsdale confessed that his marriage was the most important achievement during his four-year diplomatic mission in Armenia. He married the spokesperson of the British Embassy Maria Sadoyan.
The couple Jonathan James Aves and Catherine Jane Leach replaced Lonsdale. The appointment of a married couple as ambassadors attracts keen interest of some Armenian media representatives.
Catherine Leach was asked to comment on press reports.
“If you mean the UK press, such publication was made by only one paper which, to put it mildly doesn’t have a positive attitude towards activities of the foreign office,” she mentioned.
She also said that she understood the appointment of two ambassadors was unusual but expressed hope that after getting to know them better the public will see that she and her husband are two hard-working diplomats.
