US senators have reached a bipartisan agreement that will enable the government shutdown to end and resume the work of the government, CNN reports.

The relevant bill received support from 60 senators, while 40 voted against it.

The agreement will provide funding for government operations through January 30, 2026.

The document will now return to the House of Representatives, after which it must be signed by President Donald Trump.

The approval process may take several more days.

The US government shutdown began on October 1 and is now in its 40th day. It has become the longest government shutdown in the country’s history. The previous record — 35 days — was set during Trump’s first presidential term and ended in January 2019.
