The partial shutdown of US government funding has led to federal authorities stopping payments to local employees at some American military bases in Europe, AP reports.

This situation has affected thousands of European employees who service these US bases.

Some European countries, including Germany, have taken on the payment of these employees’ salaries, hoping that Washington will reimburse the payments once the shutdown ends.

Also, several European countries, including Italy and Portugal, have simply left the employees without pay.
