YEREVAN. – Armenian Police groundless explanations testify that criminal case against journalist Hayk Gevorgyan is false, off parliamentary opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) statement reads.
“Reality is that he is arrested for his journalistic activities by revealing illegalities of the authorities and making it public. ANC declares that incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan’s regime throws another challenge to freedom of speech in Armenia. We call local and international journalists to express their united protest for Gevorgyan’s arrest and demand immediately to set him free,” the statement reads.
To note, the Haykakan Zhamanak (Armenian Times) daily journalist Hayk Gevorgyan was arrested on Friday.
