The United States and China are poised to extend the trade truce they negotiated in South Korea by up to a year when President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping are expected to meet in Beijing in early April, according to several people familiar with the discussions, reports the South China Morning Post.

According to the sources, the extension of this agreement would consolidate short-term economic gains made at the October summit, including new Chinese purchase commitments.

Initially, Trump was scheduled to arrive in Beijing on March 31 for a three-day visit and meet with Xi.

The dates are still being discussed, the sources said.

The trade agreement between the US and China was reached after the leaders of the two countries had met in Busan, South Korea, last October.
