US President Donald Trump believes that the media is deliberately misrepresenting a possible war with Iran; he himself would prefer a deal.

"Everything that has been written about a potential War with Iran has been written incorrectly, and purposefully so. I am the one that makes the decision, I would rather have a Deal than not but, if we don’t make a Deal, it will be a very bad day for that Country and, very sadly, its people," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

He added that media claims that the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Caine, is against the US going to war with Iran are also “incorrect.”

"General Caine, like all of us, would like not to see War but, if a decision is made on going against Iran at a Military level, it is his opinion that it will be something easily won," the US president stressed.

He added that Caine did not speak out against military action, nor did he talk about limited US strikes on Iran and would lead the operation if he is "told to do so."

Axios, citing sources, reported that Caine warned Trump and senior US officials that a military campaign against Iran could carry significant risks; in particular, the possibility of being drawn into a protracted conflict.

Also, the US administration continues to discuss options regarding Iran and the consequences of each of them, Axios added.
