After several days of Iranian strikes on UAE territory, the United Arab Emirates carried out its first strike on an Iranian water desalination facility, Israeli news agency Ynet reports.

Israeli analysts note that the operation was largely symbolic — a warning — though if Iranian attacks intensify, the UAE may take a more active part in hostilities.

Earlier, Iran launched 16 ballistic missiles and 117 drones at Gulf states, including the UAE. The Emirates declared they are in a state of war and committed to defending the country and its population, while emphasizing their intention to emerge from the conflict with a strengthened position and guaranteed security for their citizens.

For context: the US and Israel have been attacking Iranian territory since February 28, causing destruction and casualties. In response, Iran has been launching missile strikes against Israel and US military bases in the region. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Seyyed Khamenei and other senior officials were killed in the US-Israeli strikes. On March 2, Hezbollah joined the war against Israel, with Israel announcing the launch of an offensive operation against the movement.
