Iran has condemned new European Union sanctions imposed against the country's officials for alleged human rights violations.
In a post on X, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei called the measures "absurd," "immoral" and "completely illegal."
Baghaei stated that the sanctions are aimed at punishing Iran for exercising its "right to self-defense" under Article 51 of the UN Charter and for resisting US and Israeli aggression.
Earlier, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas announced that member states had approved new sanctions against 19 Iranian officials and organizations for "serious human rights violations."
