President Emmanuel Macron said he has "no confirmation" that Iran is laying naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz, despite reports of the effective closure of the key shipping route due to the Middle East war.

"I have no confirmation from either partner services or our own," Macron said following a video call with G7 leaders.

He added that Iran's military capabilities have been weakened but not "reduced to zero" by US and Israeli strikes on the Islamic Republic.

"Iran's military potential in terms of ballistic capabilities has already been seriously damaged, but the country continues to attack several states in the region, so its capabilities have not been reduced to zero," Macron noted.
