Turkey on Saturday expressed "deep concern" over Israel's continued strikes on Lebanon, voicing fears that it "may commit a new genocide" under the guise of fighting Hezbollah, AFP reports.

"We are frankly concerned that (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu is moving toward a new genocide under the pretext of fighting Hezbollah," Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said at a press conference. "The international community must take action as soon as possible in connection with the crimes that Israel continues to commit."

As a reminder, the US and Israel have been attacking Iranian territory since February 28, causing destruction and loss of life. In response, Iran has been launching missile strikes against Israel and US military bases in the region. Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Seyyed Khamenei and other senior officials were also killed in the US-Israeli strikes.

On March 2, Hezbollah also joined the war against Israel. Israel announced the start of an offensive operation against the movement and entered southern Lebanon.
