The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is considering revising its rules to attempt to ban President Donald Trump and all US government officials from attending the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, which could also have implications for the FIFA World Cup being held in the US this summer, Associated Press reports.

The proposal, included on the agenda of the World Anti-Doping Agency's executive committee meeting next Tuesday, is the latest step in response to the US government's longstanding refusal to pay its annual contributions to WADA.

This refusal is part of a unanimous bipartisan US government protest against the agency's handling of a case involving Chinese swimmers and other issues. AP learned of the agenda item from correspondence between WADA and European officials involved in the agency's decision-making. Two other sources familiar with the agenda confirmed the existence of the rules proposal.

WADA spokesman James Fitzgerald said "there is nothing new here," noting that discussions related to the question of what to do with governments withholding funding have been ongoing since 2020 and are not directly linked to the US.
