Paris has declined Donald Trump's call for military assistance to ensure passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the Financial Times, French authorities are only willing to deploy ships after hostilities between the U.S., Iran, and neighboring countries have ceased.

In a weekend interview with the Financial Times, Trump urged NATO allies and China to help counter Iranian drone, missile, and mine attacks on vessels transiting the strategically vital waterway.

However, France is in talks with other countries — including European nations and Gulf states — about establishing a joint patrol force once the fighting ends, according to a source.

Germany, Greece, and the United Kingdom have also so far refrained from sending their vessels to the strait.
