Armenia ranks 89th in the World Happiness Report 2026, ahead of its neighbors Georgia (91st place), Turkey (94th place), Iran (97th place), and Azerbaijan (102nd place).

But among post-Soviet countries, Armenia lags behind Lithuania (28th place), Kazakhstan (33rd place), Estonia (46th place), Latvia (48th place), Uzbekistan (53rd place), Kyrgyzstan (66th place), Moldova (77th place), and Russia (79th place).

Finland tops the ranking. Ireland, Denmark, Costa Rica, and Sweden complete the top five.

Botswana, Zimbabwe, Malawi, and Sierra Leone were named the unhappiest countries. Afghanistan is in last place.

The World Happiness Report 2026 was prepared by the Wellbeing Research Centre of the University of Oxford, in collaboration with Gallup and the United Nations. The study is based on surveys of around 100,000 people in 147 countries.

The World Happiness Report takes into account these seven main factors that influence the assessment of the standard of living in various countries: GDP per capita, social support, life expectancy and health, freedom to make choices and decisions that affect life, the degree of social support among citizens, including participation in charity, the level of corruption, and the dystopian feeling of what is happening.

In 2012, the UN declared March 20 as the International Day of Happiness.
